What is the process of aadhaar eSign?

Aadhaar eSign lets you digitally sign a document using an OTP sent to your Aadhaar‑linked mobile (or VID for privacy). Open the document, choose Aadhaar eSign, enter UID/VID, verify the OTP, and download the signed PDF with a licensed CA certificate. MyOperator and partners do not store your Aadhaar number or biometrics.

What is Aadhaar eSign?

Aadhaar eSign is a remote, OTP‑based digital signature workflow under the UIDAI eKYC framework. The signer proves identity using Aadhaar or Virtual ID (VID). The gateway issues and embeds a digital signature certificate from a licensed Certifying Authority (CA) onto the PDF.

Before you start (prerequisites)

  1. Your Aadhaar number (UID) or VID.
  2. Access to your Aadhaar‑linked mobile to receive the OTP.
  3. A supported browser with pop‑ups enabled for the eSign gateway.
  4. The PDF/document ready in MyOperator or partner platform.
  5. Your name on the document should match your Aadhaar records.
Tip: Prefer using VID to avoid sharing your full Aadhaar number.

Step‑by‑step: eSign a document

  1. Open or upload the document in MyOperator (or follow the sign link).
  2. Choose eSign via Aadhaar. You will be redirected to the authorized eSign gateway (e.g., Leegality, Verasys).
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number or VID.
  4. Click Send OTP. UIDAI sends an OTP to your registered mobile.
  5. Enter the OTP on the secure gateway page and Confirm.
  6. The gateway applies a digital signature certificate to the PDF.
  7. You are returned to the dashboard. View or Download the signed document.

Verify the signature on the PDF

You can validate the signature using a standard PDF viewer.

Adobe Acrobat Reader (recommended)

  1. Open the signed PDF in Acrobat Reader.
  2. Click the Signature panel.
  3. Confirm Signature is valid, the signer name, issuer (CA), and timestamp.
  4. View the certificate chain for additional assurance.
Many viewers also show a visible signature box on the page header or footer.

Multi‑signer flows

  • Multi‑party documents can be signed in a sequence or in parallel.
  • Each signer completes the OTP step on their turn.
  • The final PDF contains all signatures with individual timestamps and certificates.

Security, privacy, and legal validity

  • The eSign gateway issues a digital signature certificate from a licensed CA after OTP verification.
  • Aadhaar eSign is legally recognized under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and relevant rules.
  • MyOperator and its partners do not store your Aadhaar number or biometrics.
  • Use HTTPS endpoints and trusted devices during signing.
