⚡Quick answer-
An Alternate Number is a backup phone number (mobile or landline) assigned to a user in MyOperator.
When the primary number is unreachable, busy, or out of network, calls automatically fail over to this Alternate Number, keeping your support lines live.
When should I use this guide?
Use it before you create or edit a user profile so you can add a fail-safe number that prevents missed customer calls.
1. How the Alternate Number works
Scenario | What MyOperator does | Caller hears |
Primary reachable | Rings primary | Normal ringtone |
Primary unreachable/busy | Instantly redirects to the Alternate Number | No extra delay |
No Alternate configured | Call follows global fallback (queue, voicemail, etc.) | Depends on call-flow |
2. Prerequisites
• Admin role in MyOperator.
• One spare mobile or landline number (same country code recommended).
• Ensure the number can receive inbound calls.
3. Add or update on the web dashboard
- Log in to MyOperator.
- Navigate to Users → Add User (new) or Edit (existing).

Alt text: Adding an alternate phone number
- In Phone Details, enter the Alternate Number.
- Click Save.
Expected outcome: A banner reads “User updated successfully.” The number shows under Phone Details.
4. Add or update in the mobile app
- Open the MyOperator app.
- Tap Users → select Add User or Edit User.
- Enter the Alternate Number in Phone Details → tap Save.
- You’ll see “Changes saved” at the bottom of the screen.

6. Feature matrix
Item | Supported | Notes |
Mobile numbers | ✅ | Any domestic mobile operator |
Landline numbers | ✅ | Must accept DTMF for IVR navigation |
International numbers | ⚠️ | Not guaranteed; depends on region |
Multiple alternates per user | ❌ | Only one at a time |
Auto-switch primary/alternate | ❌ | Manual edit required |
7. When a call failover will NOT happen
• The Alternate Number is switched off or is also out of network.
• International numbers may be blocked by local carriers.
• An admin has disabled “Call forwarding to Alternate” in global settings.
8. Troubleshooting & escalation
Symptom | Probable cause | Fix |
The call never reaches the Alternate Number | Number typed incorrectly | Edit user → correct digits → Save |
Both primary and alternate ring | Primary still reachable | Test by switching the primary phone to airplane mode |
Alternate rings, but call drops | Carrier blocks forwarded CLI | Use a domestic number or contact carrier |
Still unresolved? Contact MyOperator Support with the user name and both phone numbers.
